Markdale Florist was a wedding business before it was a shop. Kimberley has spent twenty years creating wedding flowers and decor, and the storefront came after. The shop builds between twenty and fifty weddings a year. Most arrive through the venues the shop works with — the people who see wedding flowers every weekend keep sending the next couple. Kimberley builds bridal work herself and does not send out a bouquet she is not happy with. In the shop that is called a fire drill: the bouquet comes apart and is built again from the first stem, even on a wedding morning if that is when a problem appears. The shop creates bridal and bridesmaid bouquets, boutonnieres and corsages, ceremony flowers and venue work. We Usually Do Not Stop at the Wedding

Many brides stay with the shop after the wedding. The next order may be for a baby shower, a child's birthday, a graduation or a prom. At the end of each year, the shop asks brides to send a wedding photo and enter a draw. The winner receives first-anniversary flowers.
